Print & Pattern Trend for Women-Fall/Winter 2014/2015

Print and pattern trends are informed by the twin powers of Earth & Air. Whether styles are elevated with atmospheric Cyclone Shifts or grounded with formations of Earth Minerals, directional designs appeal with an environmental resilience to ensure survival against the elements.

Swirling clouds and cyclonic patterns create unique atmospheric textures and surfaces, making for a turbulent take on Fall/Winter dressing. Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s coated dress resembles a stormy sky when light bounces off the surface, while Manish Arora’s design incorporates a saturation of digital print clouds and Balenciaga’s offering is textured with breezy grayscale streaks.

Fusing elegant silhouettes with the terrific power of the skies, this trend is ideal for creating statement eveningwear looks. Abstracted skyscapes are key, as seen in John Galliano’s atmospheric strips and Chalayan’s hazy tonal graduation. Balenciaga opts for a purer interpretation in white patterned with cloudy shapes.

Mineral formations influence apparel and accessories alike with metamorphic effects, on show in sophisticated neutrals of Portobello and soft metallic. Mila Schon coordinates outerwear and hats with patterned ore streaks, as Etro opts for a tonal crystallized finish and Marco de Vincenzo patterns a pair of framed heels with marbled swirls.

Earth Mineral prints can also be adapted into luxe eveningwear styles, as realized in textured beading, metallic wovens and rich sequins. Sportmax cover a simple dress with flinty diamond panels, while Roberto Cavalli interrupts patterned pleats with flashes of red. Gucci’s formal pants gleam with hints of earthy shine.
